To coincide with our official launch tomorrow, we thought it about time we formally introduced you to George and where we got our brewery name…
When we took Springside Brewing from the garage to commercial brewing, we were keen to keep the local spirit we had created amongst neighbours & friends alive. We also enjoy shopping/buying locally where possible and supporting locally owned businesses – we will continue doing this as we grow, for example using an Inner West printer for our merch.
We’d toyed with a few different names over the last 12 months including ‘Wild Beasts Brewing’ and naming each beer after a different wild animal but it didn’t have the local element we wanted.
Our family home / garage is on Springside Street in Rozelle… and so that’s where our inspo eventually came from. Our house logo (above) is the original site we made our first beer in 2018.
With a locally named brewery, we wanted each release in our range to have a theme and decided that a true-blue Australian kangaroo should be that theme, we named him George after ‘King George’ park at the bottom of Springside Street.
It just so happens that George was the name of our first car, that bought us to Rozelle many years ago. Our trusty Holden Commodore 3.8l wagon had countless variations on this name as we drove it into the ground, including the name for our second release ‘George the Beast!’ NEPA.
So there you have it. George couldn’t be kept a secret for ever!
