A lot has happened at Springside Brewing in the last month, and we wanted to update you!
Website & Pre-Sale
Two weeks ago, we launched our website and began pre-sales of our Pale Ale – ‘Gorgeous George’. We’ve had heaps of encouraging and positive messages from local breweries, independent bars, bottle shop owners and beer lovers. The craft beer industry in Sydney are a welcoming bunch and everyone we have spoken to date has offered great feedback and connected us to other like-minded mates.
Design : learning
Thursday was huge! We received the delivery of our Pale Ale cans and cartons to the brewery!
Designing the cans was a long process, we started off with the idea of a cartoon kangaroo – George (we’ll talk about why later), with a cheeky grin, mullet, holding a beer doing a shaka, he was a legend! However, … We found out late in the design process that there was an alcohol labelling police called the ABAC (Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code) that needed to verify designs ticked all of their no-fun criteria! They gave us heaps of feedback and ultimately decided that original George was too gorgeous and too cool for school – literally, too appealing to minors. So, back to the drawing board with our amazing designer and we finalised the new can with approval from our new friends!
Thankfully the cartons took shape a lot quicker and with our newfound knowledge, we kept them simple, two colour, clean and sharp.
The regulatory and specific retail channel requirements on packaging blew us away. For example, the recycle logo on each can must be at least 10mm, the drinkwise logo 8mm. Navigating barcodes was another challenge, but we got there in the end.
Visy packaging sent us a sample of the Pale Ale can and NEPA and both look exactly how we imagined!
On Tuesday 3rd November, we package our Pale Ale, ready for drinking!
Between now and then we are sorting out merch, launching on eBay, Only Craft Beer, Amazon, Catch of the Day, Dan Murphy’s online, Kaddy, Boozebud and many more platforms!
How good will that first can taste…!?
